Day 21: Six Quatrains (Solstice)

Six Quatrains (Solstice), by Ursula Le Guin

On the longest night of all the year
in the forests up the hill,
the little owl spoke soft and clear
to bid the night be longer still.

— Ursula Le Guin

I have definitely shared this poem around before, but I absolutely love it. Besides, I couldn’t leave this calendar with only one poem by Ursula Le Guin! This is actually just one sixth of the full poem, Six Quatrains, which picks out different seasonal themes in each stanza – I chose to focus on this one for hopefully obvious reasons.

You can read the full piece on the Poetry Foundation website (link: Six Quatrains), and I highly recommend it.
