Day 18: As I Lie

As I Lie, by me

As I Lie, by me

Cracked eyelids

what’s that sound?

Neighbour’s kitchen light

clear your mind

Watch is ticking

no, not like that

Blank canvas

whatcha painting?

I’m trying, ok?

oh, I see, blank canvas

No paint! Blank!

did that email sound rude?

Some light is blinking

the smoke detector?

Which one?

take your pick

There it is again!

definitely the smoke detector

I was on autopilot, it’ll be fine

busy day tomorrow, huh

At least it’s silent

your watch face isn’t, though

So much to do…

what’s on your list?

Blank. Canvas.

tick, tick, tick

Do I really want to know?

how many seconds til your alarm?

— me

Welcome to my mind! It’s noisy in here and all of it is inane. I hope this poem makes a little bit of sense – though it is meant to be a stream of consciousness not necessarily in the right order. If you relate to this in any way I recommend asking your GP about ADHD. Joking! But also.

Featured Image: Sleepy vibes on a long-distance Train journey between Guangzhou and Haikou (South of China). This one wasn’t too bad (only 18 hours!) in second-class seating! Thankfully not too busy as most people had already travelled home for their New Year’s Celebrations.
